Fiber Arts Friday 06/29/12

Hello. Happy Fiber Arts Friday!

I'd like to begin today's post with a shout-out to my friend Kathryn that's been keeping us updated on the situation with the High Park Fire in Colorado. Thanks for keeping us posted! I'm thinking of you every day Kathryn and hoping that the fire stays away.

Last Saturday we took the boat out for some trolling on Lake Michigan. We watched the sun come up behind us as we motored across Pigeon Lake on our way out.
No fish lost their lives on our lines but it was a beautiful day for bobbing on the waves. We even made a rainbow on our way back in.
It's been HOT here! Close to 100 degrees so we're all staying inside as much as possible. This weekend I plan to totally overhaul my office/craft room and do some purging. I can't decide if I want to just de-stash on Ravelry or list on eBay/Etsy. Anybody got an opinion on which would be a better idea? I've got quite a bit of handspun yarn and as beautiful as it is, I can only knit so fast. I'd rather someone else enjoy it, I think.

Rita's Sample Sock #3 is fiished...

this sock is in the freakishly long category...I knit the entire pattern as written and ended up with a sock that was too long for a woman's size 12 foot, LOL What, me swatch?!
The sock on the top above is mine, woman's size 6. I'm just glad this is for display purposes only. It certainly shows off the yarn nicely doesn't it?

I've finally managed to knit the heel properly on sock #2 and will be churning up the leg in the next few days. Thanks to Rachel at AGS I figured out what I did wrong and got it done.
I'm so proud!

Hope you've all had a great week too. Be sure to go check out all my creative friends on the Wisdom Begins In Wonder blog.
Stay cool everybody!

Mayim, you're lovely

Hello!, Happy Fiber Arts Friday to you. Thank you for coming. Don't forget to leave a comment so I'll know you were here.

You'll find lots more fibery goodness when you visit the other creative folks that post to this event over at Wisdom Begins in Wonder.

A while back I purchased this braid from my friend Emily and received a nice amount of white Cormo from Paula.
After many hours of spinning - about 10 oz of fiber
5 hours of plying
and another half hour of winding and counting

I have a beautiful skein of yarn
after a soak and winding into a cake it'll be ready to knit, hopefully into this.

What fibery things have you been doing this past week, month, year? Please share.

Socks, again

Hey y'all! Don't you get tired of seeing socks when you come here? Seems like I venture into something a little different once in awhile but always come back to socks. They're my "safe" place I guess.

Here's the progress on sample sock #3...
ready to start the heel turn. I was hoping to get this sock done by the open house at Yarn Hollow tomorrow but don't think I can knit a whole foot that fast.

This one...
is my "don't have to think while I knit" sock. It's good for sitting and chatting and pretending I'm knitting while I mostly chat.

And I've been doing a bit of spinning too...
ready to ply these as soon as I find a couple of hours to do so. Left bobbin is "Mayim Bialik" dyed by Rule Out Fiber Addiction, 100% Corriedale and the right bobbin is 100% Cormo (so soft it's ridiculous!).
We've reached the graduation and open house season here and this weekend will be busy. I'll bet by Sunday I'll really be ready for some spinning with friends and some good conversation.

What are your weekend plans? Do they include something fibery? I hope it's a great one for all of you.

You're invited to check out all the other talented folks that participate in Fiber Arts Friday over on Andrea's blog...Wisdom Begins In Wonder.  Thanks for stopping by and be sure to say hello in the comments.

Hey! I'm so glad to see you all! Would you like some big wet kisses?
Yawn...that's enough...I'm bored...where's my treats?

If it's Friday,it's fiber

What a short week! Here we are back at Friday again. I'm so glad you're here and hope you had a great holiday weekend. Did you get a chance to do something with fiber?

I've made good progress on the third sample sock for Yarn Hollow this week. It's a very easy pattern and yet it looks so difficult.  What do you think?
I cast on a sock for myself last night while hanging with my knitting/spinning peeps. The first few rows of the cuff were looking like confetti but then I got a nice red-ish stripe so I'm pretty excited to see how this is going to look when finished.

Emily was snarking about my crazy taste in sock yarn, LOL...now why would I want to knit boring socks? I want to be sure that folks will notice them. Nobody notices boring socks, jeez.

I've decided to sell my Ashford Traditional spinning wheel. Gotta get my photos together and get a CL ad written up. I've got a jumbo flyer for it too so I'm thinking I should be able to get a good price for it. I could use some space in my office and I've been so happy with my LadyBug that I feel like I'm cheating when I spin on the Ashford. Silly, I know.
We had a successful pulled pork-a-thon over the holiday weekend. The Saint and I spent 20 minutes telling each other "stop eating the pork!" on Saturday when it came out of the smoker. Yum! I like it best before it's smothered in sauce.

Be sure to biggie-size the photos so you can see how awesome that pork was.

Happy Fiber Arts Friday everyone! Please leave a comment so I know you've been here. Go check out the creative peeps on the FAF board over on Andrea's blog...Wisdom Begins In Wonder.

I finished my Wingspan

Well, hello there!

Yet another week has passed. Have you done some fibery things?

I haven't had much time to knit this week but I did get my Wingspan finished. I had be happy with just 7 wedges as I didn't really want to be playing yarn chicken with this project. Next time I'll make sure I have enough yardage before I start. I'll see about getting better photos this weekend during daylight but for now, this'll have to do.
I won a contest on a blog last week. It was such a nice surprise. The mail carrier delivered this pretty package...
inside was this cute, very useful "wallet".
it holds everything you could possibly need "when you're in a pikle".
I'll be stashing it under the seat in my car for any such opportunities that may arise while I'm out and about.

It's blazing (83f) hot hereabouts and LittleDog can attest to it...
His tongue's been out like this since I got home. There's such a nice breeze that I hate to close up the house and turn on the a/c though, and we're cheap like that, LOL Too bad these dogs have to wear hair coats all the time. I'm sure we'll have to crank up the a/c this weekend as Sunday is supposed to be 91f. I believe if it gets there my feet will explode. ugh

Have a great week everyone. Don't forget to check out the Fiber Arts Friday peeps at Wisdom Begins in Wonder.

I'll leave you with a photo from last week's market experience.

Who spun all this yarn?

I had no idea how much handspun yarn I had created in the past few months. When I got it all out of the plastic shoe boxes for a trip to Eastern Market this weekend it was surprising. I'd already shipped some to my friend Shine (of yarn bowl/pottery button fame) awhile back and she has sold a couple of skeins for me at her booth.

Tomorrow I'm heading over to The D to help her with what will probably be the biggest weekend of the season at the market. Sunday is Flower Day so it'll be crazy busy and the weather is supposed to be beautiful. I'm excited!

Here's the handspun stash...

Hopefully I'll make a few dollars to help pay for my new laptop.  If not, no biggie, it'll be a fun weekend anyway.

There has been progress made on Wingspan...
loving it now that I'm about half way and can see better what it will look like. It's still a whole lot of garter stitch though.

I've been on staycation all week so the dogs have been enjoying their extra time to be outside. It's been nice and sunny and today wasn't so hot that you couldn't stand the sun...if you were a dog. LittleDog spent most of the day laying in the patch of sun in the back room.

Thank you for stopping by and reading my blog. Be sure to leave a comment so I'll know you visited. If you'd like to see what some other creative folks are up to, hop over to Wisdom Begins In Wonder and check out the other participants in Fiber Arts Friday.

Have a great week!
